The Eye Of The Tiger
“Eye of the tiger, you can do it” I used to say that to my dog all of the time. Although he had a great life that he loved and we had so many fun adventures, he battled some pretty serious health problems for most of it. We loved him very much, with intense devotion. I would often lay nose to nose with him on the floor or cradle his head in my lap most of the night. Everyone else in the house would be asleep and we would stay awake together for hours under the glow of the night light. I would talk softly as I attempted to comfort him, throwing in an “eye of the tiger” often and sometimes in just a whisper for him and for me, good medicine for both of us and such a sacred space and time. He had such a great spirit and determination and he assisted me in finding mine some days and definitely throughout those nights. He was the first of many we rescued and he welcomed them all, sharing everything gladly and taking on his big brother and teacher role with pride while always remaining our baby. He taught us patience, resilience, determination and hope and tapped into a capacity to love that we didn’t know we possessed. When we walked by the dog park fence, the dogs would run up and watch him go by like he was some kind of rock star or guru. He was magical and an old soul for sure. We miss him terribly and we know his spirit is always with us but we miss our earthly sweet boy. “Eye Of The Tiger”- it’s the song by Survivor from Rocky III and it was perfect for him, he was a rescue and he definitely embodied what you think of when you hear it. He had a sweet soul and the heart of a warrior and a saint. He never gave in and he never gave up, he was so courageous. I say his name every single time I hear that song and it's still a comfort although I'm still sad for him that he was given that road to travel. If you don't have a theme song, you really need one and so does your pet, I think everyone should have several to match their current vibe. It can be pretty empowering and personally I find music to be very healing and it feels so good when I immerse myself in it.
The tigers eye is a captivating stone. I had a reading done a long time ago and the reader had three stones on the table for me to choose from. She asked me which one I felt drawn to and without hesitation, I wrapped my hand around the large tigers eye obelisk. At the time, I didn’t know what it was and she proceeded to tell me about the ways it can help and why she thought I was drawn to it. Throughout my reading she also told me that Archangel Michael was my protector, it was a wonderful experience. Ever since then I have had a strong connection to it and him and I most always have a stone with me.
For me it looks like it’s alive and sometimes even pulsating. When the light catches it just right, it looks as though it is lit from within just as we should be. It reminds me of sticky brown sugar with little rivers running through it. Some stones look as though they are wrapped in ancient ribbons or bands of gold that melt into the surface like a promise kept. They can also contain blue, red and gray but the ones I have are all brown sugar and bands of gold, just like the very first one I touched. It is associated with our Root and Solar Plexus Chakras and can help us with manifestation, grounding, fear, balance, protection and confidence among other things. I keep one on my nightstand and one on my desk. I’ve often worn one around my neck or in my pocket if I have to go somewhere or do something and feel called to have a little extra layer of protection between myself and the day.
There have been times I’ve searched for something that would give me extra help and now I know there are many things that will. Reiki is definitely at the top of my list. I also use crystals every day and I pray and meditate among other things that I believe to be very beneficial. That being said, I also am amazed at how we will put our belief into an object be it a good luck charm or a crystal or even a ritual when we want help. We ask for advice from others and we may even drink up every elixir we can find that promises us health, protection, longevity or beauty but we don’t often invest equal energy into belief in ourselves, our alchemy. If we start to believe we can be thrown or discouraged so easily sometimes. My personal belief is that we all have the power within us and we need to awaken it and raise our vibration and trust in that power. I feel that we also have a divine spirit team that offers us assistance and protection. I picture them almost running ahead or along side of us opening and closing doors, moving things out of or into our way or sometimes standing back and maybe saying “ watch this” as they shake their heads, smile and watch us mess up…..again and it’s PERFECT because it’s all part of the plan! I think my team would have to be totally exhausted by now! Whatever your beliefs are, I think we sometimes find it easier and more conceivable to not try or to quit believing because we’re maybe kind of sick of ourselves. We know we’ll do that “thing again” that we always do, we’ve got our own numbers. So yes, I believe and have also seen how Reiki, crystals, intentions, prayers and so on can assist us in achieving our highest good but we are the key that can unlock it all. With fierce determination and in our full expression we can step forward as the main ingredient in the mix and we can stay rooted in our power as we ask for help, make time for belief, love and care of ourselves while we are also offering help to others along the way.
The eye of the tiger also refers to the markings on the back of the ears that are visible as a tiger is about to strike. Maybe that’s for protection for the tiger and for the prey, sort of like one last warning. What are your signals when you have had enough, do you have strong boundaries to honor yourself ? Are you ok with that or do you feel like you aren’t “allowed” to have them? What is your tigers eye, your protection ? What do you run back in the house to get or do if you are headed into “battle” or just out to face another day ? Do you play your theme song and turn up the volume to channel your inner warrior? Do you carry a good luck charm? Can we really rely on these things to provide us strength and protection? It’s always good to have support in any form that comforts us. Everything is energy so there is definitely a reason you want to reach for those things and they for you but please know as with everything, you also have to want it and be willing to awaken and receive.
It isn’t easy and sometimes it just feels like a lot of work, I know this. It takes self care to a whole different level but it’s worth it. Think about channeling the “eye of the tiger” in whatever ways you need to and please - pass it on! When you run back into the house to grab your tigers eye stone or your lucky pen that turns into a pencil, that pocket knife your dad gave you, any form of protection, support or comfort - yes, absolutely take it, I always do and always will! Then pause in front of the mirror for just a moment and really look at yourself and remember that you are the key and there are lots of things that can assist you but you already have the “eye of the tiger.”
